WHY YOU SHOULD MAKE YOUR BED

I know I run the risk of sounding like a nagging mother, but this is something I wholeheartedly recommend. I can think of billion of reasons why it's hard to make the bed in the morning, however all these excuses can be addressed with a little bit of planning and a sprinkle of commitment. Below are my five reasons why making the bed in the morning will set you up for bedroom success *wink, wink*.

FEELING OF ACCOMPLISHMENT

Making your bed in the morning instantly gives you a feeling of accomplishment and this ignites a positive tone for the rest of your day. Making your bed should only take 1-2 minutes of your day - but the benefits of it are monumental!

ROOM WILL INSTANTLY LOOK CLEANER

Even if you have clothes laying on the floor or untidy side tables, having the bed fully made can instantly make your room look pulled together and polished. The bed is a large piece of furniture that commands a lot of attention so why not make it look good by investing a maximum of 2 minutes of your day on it?

RESPECTING YOUR PERSONAL SPACE

Yes - I mean "R-E-S-P-E-C-T, find out what this means to me"...Ok, Aretha Franklin! But in all seriousness, I am talking about respect for your personal space - the place where you go recover after a long day at work, the place where you go heal, the place where you go recharge. Making your bed shows that you take this "sanctuary" seriously and this will ensure that you approach this room with more intention.

DEVELOP GOOD HABITS

Trust me when I tell you that making your bed will result in picking up your clothes and other miscellaneous items in your room. It is the snowball effect. I challenge you to make your bed for the next 21 days of your life...this is the amount of time you need to develop a habit. Make it just about your bed to not complicate this habit building, however if you are inspired to take it beyond the bed, by all means, do it!

GOING TO BED ON A POSITIVE NOTE

I would like to close this by discussing the benefits of coming home to a tidy room. Having a made up bed will inspire you to be in the room to relax and wind down. Laying in bed will feel so cozy and so inviting. Instead of worrying or stressing about the messy room, you will have a clearer mind and will continue to feel accomplished (just like you felt in the morning). For those that are married (and with kids), you will find that a clean room can act like an aphrodisiac - oh yeaaaah!

Ok, signing off to go make my bed!
