SIMPLE SUGAR COOKIES

Updated: Jan 2, 2018

Have you ever walked into a house that smells like warm butter and sugar? I've been walking into a house that smells like this for the past two weeks! Here at Casa Avila Winters we have been baking sugar cookies and using the excuse of "arts and crafts" to indulge in sweet bites of naughtiness! These are so easy to make and it is truly a joy to involve the little ones in making and decorating the cookies. Every so often I catch a little person sneak a cookie to the living room to eat behind the couch...I don't blame them. These cookies are so delicious!

If you would like to bring the smell of the holidays into your house don't worry about purchasing a candle, just throw these puppies in the oven and enjoy!

Sugar Cookie Recipe

  • 1 Cup unsalted butter

  • 1 Cup granulated white sugar

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 egg

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 3 cups all purpose flour

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350° F.

  • Beat butter and sugar until smooth. We recommend using a hand mixer as this is not an easy task.

  • Beat in vanilla extract and egg.

  • In a separate bowl combine baking powder and salt  with the flour. Once combined, start adding the dry ingredients to the wet mixture a little at a time. Once the dough becomes too stiff for your hand mixer,  pour the dough to a  counter top surface and knead the dough using wet hands.

  • Divide the dough into small batches before rolling out the dough on a floured surface.

  • Use your favorite cookie cutters to cut the cookies. Make sure the dough is not too thin or too thick.

  • Bake at 350 for 6-8 minutes. I take my cookies out the oven when the sides begin to brown.

  • Let cool on the cookie sheet until firm enough to transfer to a cooling rack.

  • Decorate and enjoy!
